Why build the Betsy & Boomer?
For its amazing sound quality! Open baffle (OB) speakers sound different than typical boxed speakers. Box colorations disappear and imaging is incredible. Once you spend some time listening to open baffle speakers the colorations of boxed speakers become more apparent, more fatiguing and less enjoyable. Open baffle speakers present their own set of design challenges. But the introduction of the Betsy gives hobbyists the opportunity to build a pair of very high quality sounding speakers that rival multi-thousand dollar systems. It is simple in its approach but requires an unusual way of connecting speakers to each other and to the amplifier.

Building Betsy & Boomer requires one 4' x 8' sheet of plywood, particle board or MDF (your choice depending on the finish you want). The plans are easy to follow and all of the cutting can be done at your local hardware store except the holes for the drivers.

What do you get?
After purchasing a pair of Betsy's, the Boomer consists of a pair of Alpha 15 inch pro sound woofers designed to work on an open baffle, a dedicated solid state subwoofer amp* with a variable crossover from 50Hz to 150Hz and volume control, quality cables to daisy chain out of your existing amp and an easy to follow set of wiring and building instructions. You also receive instructions on how to connect everything to your existing stereo system and...

You get technical support to ensure your speakers have been put together
properly and assistance on making them sound their best.

As an option you can also purchase the Super Tweeter - ZillaTweeter. This super tweeter can be used with the Betsy driver that has a wizzer cone or the Betsy without a wizzer cone. Treble is 'dialed in' to taste with the volume control. The wizzerless Betsy is a special order driver and requires at least one month lead time for delivery. The sound of the Betsy & Boomer can be described as full and rich in the bass (adjustable by variable electronic crossover and volume control), fast and dynamic with a huge soundstage. Incredible imaging, smooth midrange and crisp, clear highs. There is NO crossover at critically musical frequencies.

*The subwoofer amp requires modification prior to shipping to work properly. We take care of this for you.
